Canal at Agen

Read John T. Spike's critique of 'Canal at Agen' featured in the April 2004 issue of Art & Antiques magazine.

Artist Statement:

My life has been devoted to exploring and observing the sacred and the profane in ordinary lives and places, in places of conflict and calm. I find these images everywhere - in Bosnia, the Holy Land, and Sudan, a man rushing along the Seine, a quiet grove of trees along a highway, a staircase ascending to the heavens, a narrow opening of a doorway suggesting more, or water and sky as a place of joining. These images encourage wonder and challenge our carefully protected claims to space and time. Light has been the common element for me. I have been a student of poetry, philosophy, psychology, music and theology all my life. It is the light of the sun, of understanding, inner glow, and connection. I believe that the search is part of our nature and so we go in search of what is beyond. There is the mystery of the search and there is the hope of connection. Ultimately, the images, food for our travel, will find a home in those who welcome them.
